Carin Bildt’s paintings explore psychological and emotional landscapes shaped by absence, memory, mourning and introspection. Using architectural interiors as metaphors for inner states, she creates metaphysical spaces that exist between comfort and unease, reality and imagination. Her work is rooted in an interest in the mental spaces where conflicting emotions can coexist and ordinary reality recedes. Recurring elements such as staircases, doors, and glimmers of light appear throughout her paintings, giving form to otherwise intangible experiences. Many works are covered with a layer of semi-transparent chiffon, creating a veil-like surface that softens colour and contrast while evoking the shifting, dreamlike nature of remembrance.
