Fredrik Brånstad constructs architectural spaces in his paintings, made up of references, art historical as well as contemporary, blended into new pictures. His works depict reduced surfaces that build up these architectural conditions. Brånstad’s image world resides at the boundary between security and vulnerability where the public space becomes the carrier of the subjective experience. Stating a certain mood.
Through his craft, he creates an expression where personal presence in the paintings is an important carrier of the content. He puts great effort in finding the point where the formal and the content support each other, how to treat the color, which approach to have to material and format. And also, how the relationship between painting, room and viewer appears.
